Kirsten Miller

Kirsten Miller (she/her) is a fiber artist and naturalist based in Tacoma, Washington. She graduated with a Master’s in Environmental Studies from The Evergreen State College in 2018. Kirsten currently works as an Aquatic Land Manager for the Washington State Department of Natural Resources in the Aquatics Program. She teaches natural dye and applique classes at Arbutus Folk School. 

Kirsten is the lead organizer for Tacoma and Olympia Craft Clubs and a co-founder of the Thurston County Museum of Fine Arts.

Natural Dyes with Summer Flowers

Sunday, August 3 from 10 AM to 12 PM

This class will capture beautiful colors of seasonal dye flowers onto your own wearable cotton bandana! Participants will practice bundle dyeing: using steam to transfer colors from flowers and petals onto fabric. Everyone will take home a flower-dyed bandana!

Needle-turn Appliqué

Sunday, August 3 from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM

Learn the basics of needle-turn appliqué quilting by hand to create your own designs for quilts, clothing, and more! Attendees will create a simple appliqué design on a quilt square. We will discuss creating designs from a template, needle sizes, thread, pinning, and techniques for sewing curves, points, and circles.
